TEMPE (AP)- Arizona Cardinals defensive end Calais Campbell has been named the "NFC Defensive Player of the Week" for his performance in last Sunday's 20-18 victory over the New England Patriots.
He becomes the first player in team history to win "Player of the Week" honors in two different categories. He was also chosen as the "Special Teams Player of the Week" following a week 2 victory against Jacksonville in 2009.
He becomes the first player in team history to win "Player of the Week" honors in two different categories. He was also chosen as the "Special Teams Player of the Week" following a week 2 victory against Jacksonville in 2009.
This is the first "Defensive Player of the Week" selection for Campbell. He becomes the 23rd different Cardinals defensive player to win the "Defensive Player of the Week" award and the first since Adrian Wilson in week 1 of 2010.
Campbell had two sacks, 10 tackles, two tackles for loss and three QB hits in the win. It was Campbell's third career game with double digit tackles and also his fourth career multi-sack game (2.5 at Seattle-9/25/11, 2 vs. StL-11/6/11, 1.5 at Seattle-10/18/09).
The Cardinals defense held New England to just 18 points, snapping the Patriots streak of 25 consecutive home games scoring at least 20 points. With four sacks of Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, Arizona's defense has now posted multiple sacks in eight consecutive games dating back to last season. That ranks as the longest active streak in the NFL. The Cardinals defense has also allowed 20 points or fewer in nine of the last 11 games.
