Unrest around the world prompts travel changes
The anti-American protests are impacting international tourism. The travel industry is reporting a slew of cancellations as more countries join the U.S. Government’s list of non-recommended travel spots.
9OYS contacted several local travel agencies to find out if travelers in Southern Arizona are canceling their trips overseas.
Most told KGUN 9 On Your Side that they haven’t had many cancellations, if any, mostly due to the fact that their customers don’t tend to travel to the countries of concern.
AAA Arizona spokeswoman Valerie Vinyard said AAA recommends its customers buy travel insurance.
“It is always important to work with a travel agent. They can serve as a resource for you, before during and after your trip,” said Vinyard. “AAA recommends you buy travel insurance, because that can offer some protection, too.”
AAA recommends those planning a trip overseas keep tabs on the U.S. State Department’s website. The site has a page dedicated to travel warnings. Five countries have been added to the list, since the first protest last week.
The government recommends using extreme caution if traveling to the countries on the list.
