TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - The City of Tucson will soon issue a permit for a building to be remodeled as a Medical Marijuana Dispensary, according to City Spokesman Michael Graham.
Graham tells KGUN9 that the owner of the building at 112 S. Kolb Rd. intends to operate it as a dispensary, subject to further approval by the Arizona Department of Health Services.
This is the first permit of this nature that the City of Tucson has issued.
The Arizona Medical Marijuana Act was approved by Arizona voters in November 2010.
The Mayor and Council adopted Tucson Medical Marijuana Ordinance also in November 2010.
The location on Kolb Road received preliminary zoning approval this August, and was selected in the lottery by the AZDHS to receive a dispensary certification on August 9.
City staff anticipate the applicant will complete requirements for the permit Friday afternoon.
The applicant will be required to meet further requirements of AZDHS prior to receiving approval from to operate.
