MESA, Ariz. (AP) - Two men have been arrested for allegedly trying to transport and distribute heroin in the Phoenix metropolitan area.

Mesa police say Cruz Alarcon-Lozano and Jorge Gutierez were taken into custody after a traffic stop late Thursday afternoon.

Police seized more than 10 pounds of heroin and four pounds of methamphetamine. They say the drugs had a combined street value of $425,000.

Authorities say the heroin was found inside five PVC pipes in the backseat of the car, which also carried Gutierez's 4-month-old daughter.

They say the meth was found in a search of a Mesa home.

Police say Gutierrez was being held on suspicion of drug and child-endangerment charges while Lozano was booked on suspicion of drug charges.

They didn't immediately know Friday whether either man has a lawyer yet.
