PIMA COUNTY, Ariz. (KGUN9-TV) - The Pima County Sheriff's Department has released the results of a sex offender compliance check conducted on September 9.

Deputy Tom Peine tells KGUN9 that detectives conducted a Sex Offender Compliance Check funded through a federal grant by the U.S. Department of Justice  Child Sexual Predator Program.

The checks involved face-to-face contact and interviews with household members or sometimes neighbors to confirm residency and accuracy of information.

Twenty-eight detectives were involved in the effort. They checked on sixty-two registered sex
offenders in the unincorporated areas of Pima County
.  Forty-eight of the registered offenders
were found to be in compliance with all their obligations. Three of the checks revealed that the
data submitted to the Sheriff's Department was outdated and the registrants no longer lived at the
address on record. They were labeled as absconders.

In the remaining cases, follow-up  investigations will need to be conducted as detectives were not able to collect sufficient information to confirm compliance.

Compliance checks like this one will continue to be conducted.
