TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - Officials with the Reid Park Zoo have confirmed that Snow, the polar bear, died from an underlying heart condition.
Snow was found dead in her exhibit on Monday. Preliminary results from the necropsy confirm that she had an enlarged heart with scar tissue because of her condition.
Zoo officials believe she most likely had a heart arrhythmia in her sleep, leading to her death.
This condition does not show any symptoms and officials say it is not uncommon for this type of heart disease to be diagnosed after death.
