Pima County approves new 42-mile recreational trail

TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - Pima County will begin to construct a new 42-mile recreational trail that will run along the Central Arizona Project canal. The trail will be Pima County's third National Trail of Significance
The trail will be available to cyclists, pedestrians, and equestrians and connects to more than 12 other trails in Tortolita Mountain Park, Saguaro National Park, Tucson Mountain Park, and Ironwood Forest National Monument.
Initial plans for the trail began in the 1980s but the county approved all final plans in 2009.
Since the Central Arizona Project trail in Pima County was designated a National Recreational Trail in 2003, the cities of Phoenix and Scottsdale have developed trails along the canal as well. The trail will span 336 miles between Lake Havasu and Tucson.
