TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - A convicted felon is headed back to prison after he tried to re-enter the United States.

Rosendo Coctino-Utria, 25, from Tabasco, Mexico has been sentenced to 37 months in prison after attempting to illegally re-enter the U.S., according to a release sent by the Public Affairs Office of U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

Coctino-Utria was apprehended by Ajo Station Border Patrol agents back in January.

Using the Integrated Automated Fingerprint Identification System (IAFIS), agents found that Coctino-Utria had previously served one year in prison after being convicted with possession with intent to distribute marijuana in 2011, according to the release.

Coctino-Utria will be formally deported after serving his sentence and banned for life from any legalization process.
