TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - A man has been arrested following a shooting that took place during a family party.

Police arrested 20-year-old Ismael Cuevas after investigating a homicide that occured in the 2100 block of east Silvosa Street just before 4:00 a.m. Saturday August 18, according to Sgt. Chris Widmer with the Tucson Police Department.

Once on scene, officers discovered that 24-year-old Mario Martin Paz had been shot during a family gathering, Widmer says.

Paz was pronounced dead at the scene and homicide detectives quickly got to work searching for suspects.

On the night of the shooting, police say an argument among friends and family erupted on the front lawn as several others partied inside the home.

Party-goers heard shouting just before a gun shot was fired, according to Widmer.

Cuevas has been charged with one count of first-degree murder and booked into the Pima County jail.
