FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (AP) - A Flagstaff Police Department supervisor has been placed on administrative leave after euthanizing a dog that had been badly injured after it was hit by a police car.
KYBC-AM reports that recently announced move comes following the Aug. 19 accident. Authorities say the dog was running loose when it was struck.
According to Flagstaff police, the supervisor euthanized the dog at the scene after assessing that the dog had sustained mortal injuries.
Sgt. James Jackson declined to disclose how the dog was put down but said a firearm was not used. He says the case is now under review.
The names of the officers involved have not been released. Jackson says the Coconino County Sheriff's Office will look at any possible criminal violations related to the case.
