TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) The Tucson Padres lost their final home game of the season on Sunday at Kino Stadium, falling to the Colorado Springs Sky Sox, 6-1. The Padres completed their 2012 home schedule with a record of 25-46.
Colorado Springs struck first in the top of the fourth off an RBI single by Tommy Field. Another Sky Sox run crossed the plate when Padres pitcher Eddie Kunz threw the ball between the Padres middle infielders and into center field on a double play attempt. Tim Wheeler’s two-run double into left field put Colorado Springs ahead 4-0 after four innings.
The Padres scored their lone run of the game in the bottom of the sixth on an infield single by Andy Parrino and a throwing error by Sky Sox pitcher Jason Bergmann. Colorado Springs added two runs in ninth to increase their lead to 6-1.
Cory Riordan threw six shutout innings, striking out six batters in his third win for the Sky Sox. Eddie Kunz lost his second game for the Padres, surrendering four hits and two earned runs in four innings of relief. Andrew Cashner pitched in his second rehab start for Tucson, going three innings allowing two hits and no runs with four strikeouts.
