TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - This weekend, you may come across an unusual sight on the streets of Tucson or Phoenix: a man wearing a bra riding a bike. He's doing it to help fight breast cancer. Dusty Showers of "The 2nd Basemen" non-profit organization is riding his bike from Florida to Los Angeles in a bra. This weekend, he is in Tucson trying to raise money.
This became his passion when a family member got breast cancer. Shortly after, he tried to come up with a creative way to raise awareness, and he has succeeded. Now, people all over the country who support his cause are making custom made bras, size 44, for Showers to wear.
"The most common thing people do is videotape me. They'll drive by and hold up their camera and pull over" said Showers. "My concern is that breast cancer has received so much attention that people don't pay any attention to it . We think we've seen enough of it, we get it. So, we are trying to take an unusual approach to it. I get the attention so that I can tell the stories."
On Saturday night, Showers will be at the Redline Sports Grill at Wetmore and Oracle from 8-11pm auctioning off a bra.
You can support this cause by heading to this website. All proceeds go toward families of breast cancer victims and breast cancer survivors.
