PHOENIX (AP) - Gov. Jan Brewer is freeing up emergency funds to help Yavapai County recover from some monsoon-related flooding.

The so-called Gladiator Fire charred more than 16,000 acres near Crown King in mid-May.

Following that fire, a series of monsoon storms hit the area on July 13 and 14 and caused significant flooding and debris flow in the Lincoln Ridge and Peck Canyon watersheds.

County officials say the only viable road to and from the town of Crown King was damaged and still needs repair work.

Brewer issued an emergency declaration Thursday.

The county Board of Supervisors already declared a state of emergency and requested the state's financial assistance to repair Crown King Road and reimburse the county for its emergency-response expenses.

They say road repairs are expected to total nearly $85,000.
