PALOMINAS, Ariz. (AP) - Cochise County officials say they've located the owner of two dogs that attacked and killed a miniature horse in the community of Palominas.
Sheriff's spokeswoman Carol Capas tells the Sierra Vista Herald that the owner surrendered the dogs to an animal control officer on Friday. The dogs' owner lived about two blocks from where the horse was killed.
The miniature horse named Spirit was being nursed back to health after being adopted by a local woman. She discovered the 300-pound stallion dead on Wednesday morning. Deputies determined it had been attacked by dogs sometime after 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Capas did not identify the owner of the dogs. She said earlier that if the dogs were found their owner could be cited and be responsible for restitution.
