Firetruck ladder failure injures five people in Green Valley

GREEN VALLEY, Ariz. (KGUN9-TV) - A Green Valley Fire District ladder injured four people and one firefighter after the uppermost section suddenly retracted, according to Capt. Tom Louis with Green Valley Fire District.
As of Thursday morning, two of the five people injured have been released from the hospital. The remaining three people are at University of Arizona Medical Center for ongoing treatment of their injuries. None of the injuries sustained were life-threatening.
Louis tells KGUN9 the five people were in the bucket of the ladder when it retracted.
Those inside the bucket were wearing mandatory safety equipment that prevented them from being thrown to the ground.
“This is a difficult time for Green Valley Fire family,” said Fire Chief Simon Davis, “An event like this is
unprecedented for our department."
Both the Pima County Sheriff's Department and the Arizona Department of Public Safety are investigating the incident. The manufacturer of the ladder truck is sending representatives to Green Valley to assess the cause of the ladder’s failure.
