Driver crashes through railroad crossing arms while train approaching

SAHUARITA, Ariz. (KGUN9-TV) - The Sahuarita Police Department is asking for the help of the public in locating a driver who crashed through railroad crossing arms while a train was approaching.
Samuel Almodova tells KGUN9 that on August 7, a Union Pacific train was eastbound and approached the crossing at La Canada and El Toro. The crossing arms and the signal that the train was approaching were activated.
As the train started into the crossing a light blue, late 1960’s to early 1970’s, Chevrolet pick-up truck crashed through the railroad crossing arms and was within a short distance of getting hit by the train.
A camera on the train captured the images of the pick-up going through the crossing.
Union Pacific estimates the cost to repair the damage is $5,000 to $7,000.
The driver of the vehicle is described as a Hispanic male, approximately 70-years of age and balding.
Witnesses say the pick-up continued north bound on La Canada with a damaged front windshield.
Sahuarita Police are asking for the public’s help in finding the driver. Please call 911 or 88-CRIME if you have any information regarding this incident.
