Judge halts sale of synthetic drugs in Ariz county

PHOENIX (AP) - A judge has issued a temporary restraining order banning all known retailers from selling synthetic dangerous drugs in northern Arizona's Yavapai County.
The Arizona Republic says Yavapai County Superior Court judge Patricia A. Trebesch issued the order after the county Attorney's Office sought an emergency injunction.
"Bath salts," ''spice" and "novelty powders" are street names associated with synthetic cathinones and cannabinoids.
Retailers sell the synthetic drugs in packets for $10 to $20.
Although the drugs are marked "not for human consumption," authorities say people are using them.
Doctors from Yavapai Regional Medical Center and Verde Valley Medical Center said users under the influence experience paranoia, hallucinations and exhibit aggressive, unpredictable and often violent behavior.
