TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - A young girl died Friday, after she collapsed at school, according to Cara Rene with Tucson Unified School District.
Mercedes Figueroa collapsed on campus at Santa Rita High School early Friday morning, and was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital, where she later died.
Figueroa's family told TUSD that she had a pre-existing medical condition.
Rene says the principal at Santa Rita High School rode in the ambulance with Figueroa to the hospital, and the school has counselors and staff on site available to students needing emotional support.
Rene also says that TUSD sends its condolences to the family.
