TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - 19-year-old Brian Altland has been arrested after a vehicle pursuit on Sunday, July 29.
Deputy Tom Peine tells KGUN9 that a deputy observed a suspicious vehicle at the intersection of Orange Grove Road and La Canada Road. The deputy followed the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop at the intersection of Oracle Road and Rudasill Road.
The vehicle, a Toyota Camry, then suddenly sped away from the stop and a pursuit was initiated.
During the pursuit, deputies received information that the car was reported stolen. The suspect drove at extreme speeds and because of safety concerns, deputies on the ground terminated the pursuit.
The Air Unit took over and continued to follow the passenger car.
The vehicle eventually, drove into a hotel complex at 6201 North Oracle Road. Witnesses pointed deputies to a particular room where they had seen the driver of the car run into. Adjacent hotel rooms were evacuated.
Detectives obtained a search warrant for the hotel room. Since there was no response from inside the hotel room, deputies forced entry.
Altland surrendered and was taken into custody. He is being charged with possession of burglary tools, theft of means of transportation, unlawful flight from law enforcement, as well as three separate warrants.
