Santa Cruz County settles with church group

NOGALES, Ariz. (AP) - Santa Cruz County will pay more than $40,000 for a failed effort to stop a religious group from building a church in Tumacacori.
The Nogales International reports that the County Board of Supervisors recently voted to approve a settlement with Global Community Communications Alliance.
In November, the Board of Adjustments denied the group a conditional use permit for a 17,000-square-foot facility with a sanctuary that would hold 260 parishioners and a 40-member choir.
A large number of nearby residents in November spoke out against the project.
Global Community Communications Alliance appealed the decision and the county agreed to pay the group's legal expenses.
