TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - A baby was found in a locked car Friday afternoon, according to Deputy Tom Peine with the Pima County Sheriff's Department.
Peine tells KGUN9 that a 22-year-old mother left her 2-year-old daughter in her rental car while she filled out paperwork at a friend's house.
The mother told deputies that the rental car had an automatic mechanism that left the engine and air conditioning running, but when emergency responders arrived, they found both to be turned off.
Drexel Heights Fire Department personnel had to force entry into the car to get the toddler out, who was crying and drenched in sweat.
Peine says the little girl's vitals were OK and the mother was cited and released for child neglect, a misdemeanor.
