Glendale men drop bid to overturn Coyotes deal

PHOENIX (AP) - Two Glendale residents have abandoned an effort to overturn the city's arena lease agreement with a prospective owner of the Phoenix Coyotes.
Joe Cobb and Ken Jones failed to gather enough signatures to let voters decide in a referendum.
They told the Arizona Republic on Monday that they also believed that the Goldwater Institute would challenge the city's decision in court.
Goldwater officials say they wanted Glendale voters to weigh in on the 20-year, $324 million Coyotes lease, but they didn't promise a lawsuit.
The Phoenix-based non-profit still is scrutinizing the Coyotes sale three years after it first inserted itself into Glendale's hockey negotiations.
The city signed a deal with San Jose Sharks chief executive Greg Jamison last month. He has yet to purchase the team from the National Hockey League.
