Release delayed for Tucson desegregation plan

TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - It will be September before the public gets to review a plan intended to guide Tucson's largest school district as it brings schools into racial balance.
The Arizona Daily Star reports (http://bit.ly/LXrBcI) a draft of the plan was supposed to be filed in federal court Friday.
However, a special master charged with development and implementation of the plan requested a change in the release date to allow parties in the case to review the draft and come to some agreement before it is released publicly.
For more than 30 years, the district has operated under a federal court order to desegregate its schools.
The order was lifted in 2009, but that decision was reversed when a judge determined that the district hadn't acted in good-faith compliance with the desegregation decree.
