Electric bills could rise in the coming year

TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - Tucson Electric Power is looking to raise rates to cover rising service costs, according to Joseph Barrios, a spokesman with TEP.
TEP proposed the rates in a filing with the Arizona Corporation Commission to cover more than $1 billion the company has invested over the past five years.
The proposed increase would raise a typical customer's average monthly bill by about $13.
Barrios says the average monthly bill would remain under $100.
The rate increase could happen sometime between now and August of 2013.
The new rates would be TEP's first base-rate increase since 2008 and the third increase in the last 20 years.
