TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - Tucson Police have released more information about the deadly officer involved shooting from Thursday night. It happened in a neighborhood near Golf Links and Pantano on Marc Drive. Police initially showed up after neighbors complained that something seemed fishy about Aaron Hunter, 19, who was hiding in an alley.
Officers Ryan Green and Michael Burson showed up and say that they found him fidgeting with his hands around his waist. Dispatchers told the two officers over the radio that Hunter was known to carry weapons after being released from prison last year on weapons and endangerment charges. Officers tried to pat Hunter down and some sort of altercation took place. Police say that Hunter knocked Officer Green to the ground. He chased after Hunter on foot and described a weapon falling from the suspect. Police say that Hunter tried to reach for his gun twice, forcing Officer Green to shoot. Hunter died at the hospital.
Neighbors Dean Young tells KGUN 9 "You can't get away, when you're surrounded by police they're going to get you one way or another but you don't know what people are going to do when backed into a corner."
