Issa, AG negotiations stuck on getting documents
Web Producer: Rikki Mitchell
WASHINGTON (AP) - Rep. Darrell Issa and Attorney General Eric Holder have failed to reach agreement in a dispute over providing Justice Department documents to Congress on a flawed gun-smuggling probe.
Issa says he needs the Justice Department documents before his committee is scheduled to vote on holding the attorney general in contempt of Congress.
After a 20-minute meeting at the Capitol, Holder told reporters he would not turn over documents on Operation Fast and Furious unless Issa agreed to another meeting. The attorney general says he would explain what is in the materials at that time. Holder says he wants an assurance from Issa that the transfer of the records would satisfy a subpoena from the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee that Issa chairs.
