TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - They snatched, grabbed and took off with tens of thousands of dollars in high priced handbags, but they did not get away. As it turns out, the heist at La Encantada appears to be the tip of a massive spree targeting the better things in life.
"They were just grabbing things left and right," said Harvey Weeks, a manager at a La Encantada store. "I knew something was going on."
Weeks saw it all unfold. By the time Pima County Sheriff's Deputies arrived, it was too late. But it was all caught on camera. Three brazen bandits that walked in and walked out of Louis Vuitton.
"In this case, their approach was very successful," Deputy Tom Peine said. "They walked out with over $40,000 worth of merchandise."
Those three robbers are behind bars after being arrested in Scottsdale. 9OYS has learned Virgil Nave, Tanya Nave and Lamont Hennix Jr. were allegedly involved in an organized retail theft ring. They're believed to have hit stores in Scottsdale like Dillards, Saks Fifth Avenue, Nordstrom Rack, Ulta, Jimmy Choo, along with various others. The merchandise stolen totals over $100,000.
9OYS reporter asked Weeks how he feels now that the bandits are behind bars. He replied, "That's great. I can't imagine what they put the Louis Vuitton associates through, so I'm glad they didn't get away with it."
After watching local news coverage, a Tucson Police detective recognized the suspects from a previous unrelated matter. Law enforcement realized the suspects lived in Phoenix. Several search warrants of different homes in the Phoenix area turned up just what Pima County Sheriff's deputies were looking for. Inside the home, police found several pairs of high end jeans, multiple expensive purses, boxes of perfumes and even crack cocaine.
"We found some items from the robbery at La Encantada," Peine said.
It's another case of old fashioned police work. Multiple agencies including the Scottsdale Police Department worked together and connected the dots on crimes committed miles apart.
9OYS also learned three other suspects were arrested as part of this theft ring. Renesia McCuin, Quinzale Nero and Alberto Cortina also sit in the Scottsdale City Jail for their involvement in the robberies and trafficking stolen property.
