TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - Tucson Firefighters battled near record-breaking heat on Saturday as they put out a fire on the south side. The fire started in a garage near Kino and Benson Highway. When Tucson Fire arrived, neighbors were trying to put it out with a garden hose. Firefighters almost had to call for backup, due to the heat.
" With the excessive heat today, if this fire was, if we weren't able to put it out as quickly as they did we probably would have had to call for a second alarm just to give the firefighters a break. When it's 105, 107 degrees, you gotta rotate through pretty quick", said Deputy Chief Pat Quinn.
The fire caused about $50,000 in damage. The cause is under investigation.
