1 critically hurt after hitting Mesa school bus
MESA, Ariz. (AP) A man has suffered life-threatening injuries after his car struck a school bus stopped on a Mesa street.
Mesa police spokesman Steven Berry says the 50-year-old man was driving a van Wednesday morning and failed to break behind the bus on Broadway Road.
Berry says the driver is listed in critical condition at a local hospital.
A 17-year-old girl was also taken to the hospital as a precaution after hitting her head on the bus.
Berry says only two children were on the bus, which was picking up students at the time of the crash.
Police are investigating the cause but believe impairment from drugs or alcohol was a factor.
