Oak Creek fish farmer feeds millions of mouths

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (AP) - Mike Weisser is a fish farmer in the secluded, spring-fed hatchery of Oak Creek Canyon at Sterling Springs.
He starts out 70 percent of the trout that the Arizona Game and Fish Department uses to stock rivers and lakes. That's about 1 million fish per year.
His work involves scrubbing the tanks with brushes and brooms and hourly feeding of the youngest fish. There's also a cycle of paperwork to ensure the next batch of trout eggs arrives and the batch ready to head elsewhere reaches its destination.
Officials say the fertilized eggs come from private, state and federal sources.
The 54-year-old Weisser has been raising fish for 23 years and doing it in Oak Creek Canyon since 2008.
