TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - A wild weather day in Southern Arizona left a lot of Tucsonans picking up the pieces. From shingles flying off roofs to a tree falling on top of an SUV, it was all the aftermath of a dust storm that packed a punch.

"I don't really know what to think," Andy Gomez said. "I don't think it's sunk in yet."

Gomez came home Wednesday night to a 20 foot tree right on top of his SUV.

"That's my truck," Gomez said. "It's pretty much gone."

Winds in excess of 50 miles per hour throughout the day were to blame for the damage outside Gomez's house. The tree was uprooted from the ground by the winds and blown over onto the car parked out front. Neighbors in the area couldn't believe what the storm left behind.

"I was just in shock that the wind was strong enough to knock down that tree," neighbor Ashley Rance said. "

Rance lives right across the street from Gomez. No trees were blown down in her front yard, but she tells 9OYS the gusty winds made for a tricky day.

"It was a lot of cleaning up," Rance said. "A lot of things were found on the street and in our garden. We lost a couple baby shoes out here too. They're just gone."

It's not the only thing the winds blew away. Just a few blocks east of Rance's her roof. 9OYS reporter Marcelino Benito asked Simpson what she thought when she saw the damage.

"I just looked at it and said that's my roof," Simpson said. "The neighbors said it just happened and I just missed it."

She tells 9OYS it's going to take a few days to get it fixed. In the meantime, she's placed a tarp over the roof for the night. As for Gomez, she tells 9OYS the SUV may be totaled, but it could have been a lot worse.

"My neighbor was putting her baby to sleep," Gomez said. "It fell not on her house, not on our house, but on something that was highly replaceable."

Neighbors say this is one haboob they will not forget anytime soon.

"I've never seen anything like that here," Rance said. "You see dust devils in the distance or on TV, but never right down your street."
