Salmon files nomination papers for Arizona's CD5

PHOENIX, Ariz. (AP) - Former U.S. Rep. Matt Salmon has filed his official candidate nomination papers for Arizona's 5th congressional district.
Monday was the first day federal candidates are permitted to officially file for candidacy.
Salmon is a Republican will be running for seat he retired from in 2000.
He was first elected to Congress in 1994 and honored his pledge to serve only three terms.
The seat is open because six-term U.S. Rep. Jeff Flake is running for the U.S. Senate.
Salmon is expected to face a competitive primary field in the solidly GOP district.
