TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - The road that leads to Mount Lemmon outside Tucson will be closed or severely restricted for a marathon on Sunday.
Pima County sheriff's deputies will close the Catalina Highway at 5 a.m. Sunday. The marathon begins at 6 a.m. and is expected in draw about 300 runners.
After the race begins, only a single-lane of the highway will reopen, with drivers following a pace vehicle that will alternately travel up and down the mountain. The race is expected to be over and the roadway reopened by 2 p.m.
The sheriff's department says drivers should expect extreme delays if they want to go up or down the mountain during the race.
