TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - The parents of a three-month-old baby who was killed were arrested over the weekend after new evidence in the case.
Deputies with the Pima County Sheriff's Department tell KGUN9 that Olivia Paige Martinez, 20, and Jonathan Niles Kesterson, 26 are believed to be responsible for the death of their child, Vanessa Martinez.
Kesterson was apprehended in San Diego, earlier this month on unrelated charges.
While being processed, deputies say he made comments to corrections staff regarding the child's death.
The Pima County Sheriff's Department was notified and sent detectives to interview Kesterson.
Warrants were issued for both parents after the initial interview.
According to Pima County Sheriff Spokewoman, Dep. Dawn Barkman, they are both facing charges of First-Degree Murder and Child Abuse.
Detectives are still investigating the baby's death.
