Route 66 gas station on historic register
Web Producer: Marissa Pasquet
PEACH SPRINGS, Ariz. (AP) - A gas station on Route 66 in Peach Springs in northwestern Arizona has been added to the National Register of Historic Places.
The John Osterman Gas Station was built by a Swedish immigrant in 1929 and served gas continuously until its closure a few years ago.
The Hualapai tribe, which got the station nominated for the historic register, plans to rehabilitate the building and restore fuel service.
Making the list of historic places means the Hualapai tribe can qualify for special grants to help pay for the restoration.
