NYC school for immigrants faces eviction

NEW YORK (AP) - A New York City center that for decades has taught English and helped immigrants assimilate is facing eviction from its Manhattan location.
The International Center says a dwindling endowment and the economic downturn was forcing it to close its doors on West 23rd Street.
The center has about 300 active volunteers and currently is teaching about 1,500 students.
Volunteer Winfield Cooper told The New York Times that the center's board had tried unsuccessfully to negotiate with the landlord. The landlord, Two Trees Management, has declined to comment.
In the past week, volunteers have formed committees to find a new location and raise money.
