TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - Border Patrol agents stopped a massive smuggling attempt this weekend using detection technology.
U.S. Customs and Border protection tells KGUN9 that more than 3,000 pounds of marijuana were seized after Ajo Station agents spotted a smuggling attempt near the Lukeville Port on Saturday.
A helicopter crew responded and saw a group of smugglers running into Mexico as Border Patrol agents on ATV's arrived on the scene.
Agents found 74 bundles of marijuana, a combined value of approximately $1.63 million.
The marijuana will be turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration for disposal.
