TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - High honors for a Pima County Superior Court Judge.
Today President Obama nominated Judge John S. Leonardo to serve as U.S. Attorney for the District of Arizona.
Judge Leonardo has experience as Assistant U.S. Attorney for the District of Arizona. He has served nearly 20 years on the bench here in Pima County.
Judge Leonardo released the following, "I am honored by the President's nomination and look forward to the Senate confirmation process."
Senators John McCain and Jon Kyl both support the nomination and released the following statement: “The nomination of John Leonardo for U.S. Attorney is welcome news for Arizona. With over a decade of experience as an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the District of Arizona and nearly 20 years on the bench for the Pima County Superior Court, John Leonardo is well equipped to serve in a key post that has been left vacant for far too long.”
Judge Leonardo retired at the beginning of the month. He presided over the trials of double murder suspects Shawna Forde, Jason Bush and Albert Gaxiola and he also presided over the Nick Delich murder case.
