PHOENIX (KGUN9-TV) - The Bureau of Land Management released statistics from its recent two-week operation in the Ironwood Forest and Sonoran Desert National Monuments.
The rangers collected almost 8 tons of trash in the public lands, and seized nearly 4,000 pounds of marijuana.
They also arrested 233 suspected undocumented immigrants.
The BLM tells KGUN9 that these lands are used by drug smugglers to get to Interstate 8.
This operation was the fourth since October, where additional rangers are brought to areas with the greatest need.
Another surge is underway, while two more are planned before the summer months.
