TUCSON (KGUN9 -TV) - Tucson Police arrested a woman on charges of child abuse, after her baby was hospitalized in September.
Hospital staff members reported to authorities, that the victim, a then 22-month-old boy, was brought into the hospital weighing just 14.5 pounds.
In a news release issued by the Tucson Police Department, Tucson Police Dependent Child Unit began an investigation, despite contributing medical conditions with the child, hospital staff says the baby's low weight resulted from not being provided sufficient nourishment.
Investigators report the baby lived with his mother, 23-year-old Ashley Kammerer. The child suffered from medical conditions that required special feeding, and Kammerer was not providing the necessary care.
An arrest warrant was issued for Kammerer on January 12, 2012. Detectives located Kammerer on Friday, and she was booked into the Pima County Jail.
According to the news release, the child has been placed in temporary custody with Child Protective Services, and he has nearly doubled in weight in the past four months.
