TPD: Don't go downtown if you don't have to
Reporter: Stephani Ruiz
TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - If you don't need to go downtown Wednesday, avoid the area.
The Tucson Police Department said two events downtown will create a lot of traffic congestion throughout the day.
Several thousand people will attend the "Get Motivated" Tucson event at the Tucson Convention Center. There will be additional traffic during the early morning and late afternoon.
Along Granada near Interstate 10, some construction materials will be moved. The job could take several hours during the middle of the day.
Use alternate routes if you don't absolutely need to be in the downtown area. Alternate routes to consider are West 22nd Street and West Saint Mary's. TPD said to also use the freeway or frontage road to get back to the west or east sides of downtown.
