TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - Detectives with the Tucson Police Department have arrested a mother in connection with the death of her 1-year-old baby girl.

Emergency crews were called to the home Thursday morning and found the baby girl unresponsive with signs of possible abuse. Fire crews took the girl to an area hospital where they were unable to revive her.

Sgt. Matt Ronstadt with Tucson Police said that investigators found a 3-year-old brother in the home who also showed signs of physical abuse. Paramedics took that child to a hospital where he is being treated and is currently listed in serious condition.

On Thursday evening, detectives arrested the biological mother of the children, 23-year-old Kiyana Higgins and booked her into a Pima County jail on 2 counts of child abuse. Both counts are class 2 felony's in the State of Arizona.

An autopsy has been scheduled in order to determine the cause of death in the baby girl. Ronstadt said that additional charges for Higgins may be possible as they are still investigating.
