YUMA, Ariz.(AP) - U.S. Border Patrol agents working in southwestern Arizona have seized more than 360 pounds of marijuana and have arrested six suspected smugglers.

Authorities say the bust happened early Thursday while agents were patrolling east of Gila Bend. They were able to track a group of Mexican nationals who were walking through the desert.

All six were carrying burlap backpacks filled with marijuana.

Agents estimate the pot was worth about $181,000.

The drugs and the six people were turned over to the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office.

The Border Patrol says it has made progress against transnational criminal organizations by limiting their ability to transport contraband throughout the United States and by ensuring smugglers face stiff federal penalties.
