TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) – Thousands gathered for a hot Christmas meal at the Tucson Convention Center.

The Salvation Army says the annual event continues to grow.  This year, organizers say, more families showed up.

Around 4,000 meals were served and more than 500 meals were delivered.

”It is a donor volunteer-based operation,” said Tamara McElwee with the Salvation Army.  “We really counted on people helping out and they rose to the occasion.  We got all the donations we need.”

More than 200 volunteers helped to serve meals.  Santa Claus also stopped by to deliver presents to the kids.
