TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - After days of intense searching, Pima County Sheriff's Deputies finally arrested Zachary Angelo Erickson, 21, Thursday afternoon near 22nd Street & Harrison. A nearby worker spotted him shopping at a store and called 911. Deputies then found Erickson riding a bike and arrested him.
The effort to track him down goes back to Saturday, December 10th when Erickson allegedly tried to abduct a woman at knifepoint who was jogging near Old Spanish Trail. She managed to get away and so did Erickson.
Deputies spotted him on Wednesday in the same area and tried to arrest him, but Erickson got away. That's when a massive manhunt was launched in the Rita Ranch area which eventually came to a close Thursday afternoon when Erickson was spotted and arrested. Since the attempted abduction, Deputies say that Erickson managed to steal two cars.
9 On Your Side was at the Pima County Sheriff Headquarters late Thursday when Erickson was hauled off to jail. Reporter Tammy Vo asked "Did you try to take a woman at knifepoint?". Erickson did not answer.
"You're facing a lot of trouble at 21 years old. How do you feel about that" asked Vo. Again, no response.
Erickson now faces charges of attempted kidnapping, aggravated assault, car theft and running from law enforecement. Deputies say that there was a prior warrant out for his arrest for violation probation related to a prior theft incident.
