TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - A helicopter has crashed in the desert near the Raytheon facility located near Tucson International Airport just after 9:40 a.m. Wednesday morning.
Ian Gregor with the Federal Aviation Administration said that the Robinson R-22 helicopter, being operated by Raytheon, reported an engine failure and crashed approximately 1.5 miles south of the Tucson International airport.
Gregor said that the pilot was taken to an area hospital with injuries described as non life threatening by medical crews.
A Tucson Police helicopter conducting training operations nearby heard the distress call and was the first emergency crew over the scene.
