Police investigating tow truck-pedestrian accident

TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - Tucson Police Officers responded to the Chevron Gas Station located at 1600 West Valencia on the Friday evening in response to a report of a motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian.
The accident was reported at approximately 9:12 p.m., and officers were on scene within approximately 2 minutes, according to police reports. Upon arrival, authorities found that a tow truck in the parking lot of the gas station had struck an adult female. Authorities say the victim appeared to be suffering from life-threatening injuries.
Tucson Fire Department personnel responded to the location as well. Fire crews transported the pedestrian to a local hospital. On Saturday morning the female pedestrian, was identified as a 58-year-old Tohono O’odham resident Nancy Martinez.
Authorities say Martinez succumbed to injuries sustained during the collision. She was pronounced dead at the hospital. Next of kin has been notified.
Detectives from the Traffic Investigations Unit responded to the gas station to further the investigation. They collected evidence at the scene and interviewed various witnesses.
The detectives learned that Ms. Martinez had been walking across the parking lot of the gas station. A white, 2011 Dodge Tow Truck was driving in reverse in the parking lot.
Authorities say the tow truck struck Martinez as she was walking. The driver of the tow truck remained on the scene and cooperated with the investigation.
There was no indication that drugs or alcohol were a factor in the collision. At this time, the driver tow truck driver is not expected to be cited criminally or civilly for the collision.
