Cochise County Sheriff’s Office plans memorial

SIERRA VISTA, Ariz. (KGUN9-TV)--The Cochise County Sheriff’s Office is holding a memorial service Dec. 8 to honor Deputy Jeffrey Carl Brown.
Brown was 24 years old when he was beaten with a metal pipe during a riot on Oct. 23, 1982. He died 11 months later as a result of the injuries.
In 1982 the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office and members of a radical church group were involved in a bitter legal struggle. The conflict resulted in physical violence injuring several members of the church group and deputies.
A permanent plaque is being placed in the sheriff’s office in Sierra Vista to honor Deputy Jeff Brown.
The memorial dedication is scheduled for Dec. 8, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at the Sierra Vista Substation, 100 Colonia De Salud.
