Copper miner wants state to handle air permit

TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - Rosemont Copper is trying a different tactic in getting an air-quality permit. The Arizona Daily Star reports it wants the state and not Pima County to handle the permit process.
An attorney for Rosemont believes the state, and not Pima County, has legal jurisdiction over the permit under a state air-quality plan.
Pima County Administrator Chuck Huckelberry says he suspects Rosemont is "shopping" for a more favorable decision.
Huckelberry and five supervisors have vocally opposed the proposed mine in the Santa Rita Mountains.
A company vice president denies that's Rosemont Copper's motive for seeking state intervention, and says the company is only trying to make sure the rules are followed.
