TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - Tucson Police have arrested 26-year-old Adam J. Worthington in connection with a hit-and-run incident in midtown.

Tucson Police officers responded to Alvernon Way and Bellevue Street upon receiving a report of a collision involving a pedestrian and a driver, who fled from the scene.

Officers state they arrived at the scene at approximately 7:45 p.m., Saturday.

Upon their arrival, officers say they discovered an adult male in the roadway. The man had suffered serious trauma, and died at the scene. The victim has been identified as a male in his mid-50s. Next of kin have not been notified at this time.

Detectives determined the victim was headed westbound on foot, crossing Alvernon Way at Bellevue Street in an unmarked crosswalk area, when it appears he fell in the roadway. While still on the ground, the victim was hit by a 2000 Toyota Corolla that was driving southbound in the curb lane, by Worthington. Authorities state Worthington did not stop after striking the victim; instead he fled westbound in the vehicle, away from the incident location.

Through witness statements, evidence at the scene and leads developed by the Traffic Investigations Unit, detectives located Worthington and the suspect vehicle at his residence, within several hours following the hit and run.

At this time, detectives are in the process of making the determination whether Worthington was at fault for the collision itself.

The possibility that drugs or alcohol may be a factor in the fatality is under investigation, according to authorities.

Adam J. Worthington has been arrested and booked into the Pima County Adult Detention Center, charged with one count of leaving the scene of a fatal collision.
